Vietnam is located in Southeast Asia on the eastern and southern part of the Indochinese peninsula. It is shaped like an ‘S’ with the South China Sea along its entire coast. The country is about twice the size of Arizona.


The terrain of Vietnam includes forests, wetlands, and a long coastline. Most Vietnamese people live in the countryside, predominantly in the river delta regions. Important cities in Vietnam include Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon) and Hanoi, the capital.


Vietnamese is the official language of the country.


Vietnam is a communist country and there is no official religion. However most residents of Vietnam practice the “Three Teachings” of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.

  • - Children in Vietnam go to school six days a week- Monday through Saturday.

    - The school day is about four hours long.

    - The school year runs from September through May.

    - It is said that the Vietnamese value system is based on four basic tenets: allegiance to the family, yearning for a good name, love of learning, and respect for other people In addition to academic subjects, children in Vietnam are taught traditional manners and customs including social skills and respect for their elders, family and community.

    - Students do not get grades on a report card. Instead, they are ranked first, second, third and so on.

    - Many students must wear uniforms to school.

    - Soccer, table tennis, volleyball, and martial arts are popular sports in Vietnam.

    - The food in Vietnam is a blend of Chinese and Thai and features seafood and homegrown fruits and vegetables.
